Abstract
This blog introduces Tearfund's internationally recognised Transforming Masculinities programme, which equips churches and faith leaders to challenge harmful gender norms and address one of the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence. Drawing on years of practical experience from faith communities around the world, the programme demonstrates that lasting transformation occurs when communities engage in honest conversations about power, relationships, gender and faith. Rather than treating gender justice as separate from spiritual life, the article shows how faith can become a powerful catalyst for social change.
The article highlights the unique influence that faith leaders have in shaping community attitudes and behaviours. By encouraging men to embrace models of leadership characterised by humility, compassion, justice and service, the programme offers an alternative vision of masculinity rooted in the example of Jesus Christ.
