Abstract
This brochure, published by the National Prosecuting Authority, explains the way Thuthuzela Care Centres work. There are TC Centres in all provinces of South Africa and the brochure includes a list of useful addresses too.
The Thuthuzela Care Centres’ mission is to empower victims to overcome their experiences and become survivors, providing a comprehensive range of services that cater to their physical, emotional, and psychological needs. By providing a holistic range of services that address the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of victims, the Centres help them rebuild their sense of self-worth, reintegrate into their communities, and regain control over their lives.
Victims are made to feel welcome by a team of trained professionals who create a safe and non-judgmental space for them to share their stories. The Centres’ medical teams provide prompt and compassionate medical care, including forensic examinations, to ensure that victims receive the necessary treatment and support.
The Centres’ emotional support teams offer counselling and therapy sessions to help victims process their trauma, work towards healing, and regain control over their lives. The teams also provide practical support, including assistance with reporting the crime, accessing legal services, and accessing financial assistance.
