Improving the choices and opportunities for adolescent girls. A toolkit for faith leaders – 2023 Christian Aid

Category: Facilitation in the faith sector

Subcategory: Training Manuals and materials

Abstract

This toolkit was developed in Nigeria, with Christianity and Islam as the backdrop. Apart from tools it provides some interesting background on Nigeria and the position of girls and women in Nigeria.
The toolkit aims to provide guidance on how to create a supportive environment that promotes the well-being and empowerment of adolescent girls. The resource is based on the understanding that faith leaders play a crucial role in shaping the lives of young people and can be a powerful influence in promoting positive change.
The toolkit includes practical exercises, case studies, and biblical reflections that help faith leaders to understand the challenges faced by adolescent girls, such as poverty, lack of education, and gender-based violence. It also provides guidance on how to create a safe and inclusive space for girls to share their experiences and concerns, and how to engage boys and men in promoting gender equality. The manual encourages faith leaders to work with local communities and organizations to develop policies and programmes that support adolescent girls' rights and well-being.
Faith leaders can help adolescent girls build their confidence, develop their skills, and make informed choices about their lives. Faith leaders can also work with other community stakeholders, such as schools, health services, and local organisations, to create a holistic support system for girls. The toolkit also provides case studies and success stories to illustrate effective interventions and inspire action.
