Abstract

The 2013 Gender Justice Policy is a call to action for churches to embody the principles of justice, equality, and peace, ensuring that all people can live with dignity and free from violence and discrimination.
Rooted in Christian theology and aligned with global human rights standards, the policy underscores the equal dignity of all people, regardless of gender, and calls the church to be a prophetic voice against gender-based injustice. The policy focuses on:
1. Promoting gender equality,
2. Addressing gender-based violence,
3. Empowering women and girls,
emphasising that these goals are integral to achieving justice and peace. It also recognises the importance of intersectionality, acknowledging how gender intersects with other forms of discrimination.
To realise these goals, the LWF commits to several key actions, including ensuring equal participation of women and men in decision-making, protecting survivors of gender-based violence, and integrating gender perspectives into education and church teachings. The policy calls for church leaders to advocate for gender justice, and for collaboration with other organisations to further these efforts. Additionally, the LWF pledges to allocate resources and maintain accountability through regular monitoring of the policy’s implementation.
