Abstract
MATI is a regional residential training programme that empowers activists and practitioners working with men and boys across Sub-Saharan Africa. It equips facilitators with gender-transformative tools, builds peer role models, and inspires local campaigns that celebrate men who demonstrate equitable behaviour. Rather than focusing on celebrity figures, MATI highlights everyday role models—teachers, coaches, fathers, and faith leaders—who visibly live changed norms and influence others in their communities.
Through training, mentoring, and community engagement, MATI nurtures networks of men who actively model positive behaviours, helping to shift social norms and promote gender equality across diverse local contexts.
