Abstract

This brief examines the widespread epidemic of GBV in Southern Africa, highlighting its prevalence in diverse settings such as homes, schools, workplaces, and faith communities. It explores the unique and influential role that faith leaders can play in addressing GBV by leveraging their positions of authority and trust within communities. The resource emphasises the potential of faith-based interventions to prevent violence, transform harmful cultural and religious practices, and provide holistic support for survivors. It also discusses practical strategies for engaging faith leaders in advocacy, education, and community mobilisation to challenge patriarchal norms and promote gender equality.
